This group gives the CMU libraries outreach community a space to brainstorm ideas, share information about library outreach events on campus, and share resources. This working group consists of a monthly informal meeting that can include quick check-ins and resource creation as needed.
The Outreach Working Group is open to all Carnegie Mellon University Libraries faculty and staff working on library-related outreach. In addition, this group also has several committee members in marketing and external relations in order to see how library outreach can align with and complement goals within the larger scope of university development. This group also collaborates with members of OLIBTEL and library DEI initiatives to build on teaching and DEI goals while creating outreach resources.
For the purposes of this group, outreach is an umbrella term for many types of activities that engage users outside of traditional library services, but encompasses the following:
- Online and in person
- Understanding our users’ needs
- Teaching outside the classroom
- Resources and more
- Engaging with our end users
- Arts and crafts
- Creating cross campus connections
- Home away from home, the library as a community space
Other goals of this group include: 1) Creating resource guides and bibliographies for topics pertaining to library outreach, 2) Connecting people working on outreach with potential collaborators, and 3) Sharing library social media updates to help us think about pathways to increased digital engagement.
This group meets the first Wednesday of each month from 11am - 12pm and is accepting new members.
